Poetry Competition 2011: Turning over a new Leaf - Closes April 2012
Can you wax lyrical, describing just how much fairer than a summers day your loved ones are or do you find yourself conducting daily conversation in iambic pentameter? If that sounds like you, or if you just love writing poetry then this competition is for you – we’d like to see your poetry about change, whether it be the seasons, a relationship or even adjusting to new situations.
Prizes: The winner will receive £100, copies of The Poetry Toolkit, Teaching Creative Writing and the Beginner’s Guide to Getting Published. The winner and selected runners up will be published in an anthology and featured in an upcoming issue of the Leaf Writers’ Magazine.
Entry Fee: £4 for a single entry, £10 for 3 entries. Enter online or by post.

First Chapter Competition - Closes December 31 2011
It’s the dream, isn’t it, to write a novel. How do you start it? With the first chapter of course! We’re calling for first chapters of all genres and styles, anything up to 2000 words. If you have a romance story, or something for children, send it in; if you’re the next big thing in circus freak show fiction or your science fiction is out of this world we’d love to see it. Who knows, maybe you’ll write the first chapter and you’ll be inspired to carry on – now that’s the dream!
Prizes: The winner will receive £100, copies of How to write your first novel, How to Write Historical Fiction and Kate Walker’s 12-Point Guide to Writing Romance. The winner and selected entries will have excerpts published in Leaf Writers’ Magazine. ALSO, Cinnamon Press have agreed to review the winner and commended entries as potential submissions for publication.

Memoir 2011 Competition - Closes October 31 2011
In past years our memoir competitions have yielded some fantastic pieces and
we look forward to reading them again this year. Send us extract from your own
life in 1,000 words or fewer that you think will grab our attention. It can be
anything from an amusing anecdote, a terrible job experience or an enduring memory
of a moment. As long as it stands alone as a narrative we’d like to see it.
Prizes: £100 prize for the overall winner, along with a copy of Writing your Self
by Myra Schneider and John Killock, Write your Life Story by Michael Oke, and Write
From Life. The winner, and selected runners-up will be published in the Leaf Writers’
Magazine and an anthology. All entrants published in the magazine will receive a free e-copy.

Sometimes what your write just doesn’t seem to fit a genre or size, maybe it’s
not quite what competitions are asking for. Do you write for children? Graphic
Novels? Cartoon strips? Or maybe you have missed a deadline and have this
fabulous poem/story/microfiction that you want to send now. This is your opportunity to
send ANYTHING. It can include any sort of writing, illustration, graphic
pieces or a combination of anything. Bear in mind that we want to print it in
the magazine so sending sculpture might not work. Word limit 1,000 words,
size limit 4 A4 pages or 2 A3 pages. If you want your work returned please send
an SAE with the correct postage.
Prizes: £100 cash and free copies of Writing and Illustrating the Graphic Novel,
The 12 Point Guide to Writing Romance and The Creative Writing Handbook
(All reviewed in the Leaf Writers' Magazine) All winning and commended entries will be published
