looking for a man to make you whole.
Here are a hundred of them, perfectly formed.
These men will never let you down,
or give you a load of grief.
They’ll stay around.
Time and tide wait for no man.
So take one, quick.
They’ll love you like no other can.

Shore’ by Kathy Miles.

Standing on the Cast-Iron Shore and Other Poems
contains the winning entries from the Leaf Books Poetry
Competition 2008: they comprise thirty-three of the
most tantalising verses about iron men, deceptive
uncles, egregious myna birds and macadamia nut
steamers that you could ever hope to encounter.
The Leaf Books team was aided in the judging of this
competition by the poet Sheenagh Pugh.
