Sally Douglas

Sally Douglas was born in Cornwall, studied English at Warwick University, and has worked in accountancy, market research, and pre-school education. After ten years in the Midlands and London, she now lives in Devon with her husband, three children, and several thousand books. Her favourite places are moors, mountains, and coasts. She has had poems published in small press magazines, and was a prizewinner in the Challenging Poverty Poetry Competition. She loves writing short stories, because they inhabit the place where poetry meets prose. She is currently working on collections of poetry and short stories.

A bookish boy’s learning to experience his city as a blind man would experience it; a fabled and helplessly destructive dragon that lives at the local takeaway and a biker’s encounter with a Harley-fancying mermaid. The Light That Remains and Other Stories contains the winning entries from the Leaf Books Open Short Story Competition that ran during the winter of 2006. The fourteen superlative stories residing within represent the pick of crop.
